I don't get it. All of the banks that charge fees for having a checking account and shit like that. There's plenty that don't, so why not bank with those ones?

Thats the bank my mother formed her trust in so I have to go through them but I transfer all the money immediately to a local bank ( mind blanking what they are actually called right now )

Baffles me too

They treat their clientele like shit, and then charge them for it.

The only logical reason I can think of is they have branches just about everywhere. But that's a pretty terrible reason to choose a bank. The real reason is they have brand recognition

Probably Brand Recognition. If you're well known enough, people will come to you even if there are vastly superior options.

See: McDonald's and Burger King for more info.

My parents set up my Wells Fargo account when I was like a year old (so they could deposit my PFDs under my name, lifelong Alaskan here), then in the like 13 years since I took control of my finances as an adult I've never had a bad experience with them so I've never felt the need to seek out others.

I'm sure it would be a good idea to do so, though, and I probably will as I start to explore options to deal with some medical debts here soon.

My parents both worked for the bank and set up my account when I was an infant and they have never treated me poorly in any way so I have no desire to change.

That checking account fee is waived if you have direct deposit of over $500 a month or keep more than a certain amount in there so it's not a real issue for most people. Most banks have pretty much the same deal.

The only thing Wells Fargo really offers above their competition though is 24/7 customer service. I've personally never had a 4am banking emergency so it's a useless perk imo.
