Earthbounds enemy encounter system blows FF6s out of the water though. In EB you can at least attempt to avoid enemies in new areas - and when youre exploring early game areas again you literally dont have to waste time fighting weak enemies. It doesn't have great gameplay, it doesn't even have a good story, and it's pretty unpolished too, but it's still a fun game because of dialog and tone and stuff.
