Since I have to track serial numbers & such, I tend to do the slash thing. That way it's totally distinct from the letter O. I also tend to write the number 2 with an exaggerated loop to avoid confusion with the letter Z.

I usually write it as an oval but in any instance where it is in an alphanumeric string I write it as a circle with a forward slash to differentiate it from the letter O.

Circle generally. I really don't try to differentiate 0 from O. If I'm just writing it as part of a sequence of numbers, I write it smaller than other numbers like $20.00 would be $2o.oo or 104.3 would be 1o4.3. I find it more aesthetically pleasing myself.
