Though if you really want the Star Wars overtones, FFVI has it way worse, with the Empire literally building a massive metal fortress and using death weapons to wipe out their enemies. Ending with the Emperor's chief lieutenant betraying him and throwing him off a flying platform. After shooting him with lightning.
