I think its a great choice, you work in the restaurant industry, make money and a living and getting that paper

My aunt has worked there for 17 years and love it. She works register and in the kitchen.

I dont get whats wrong with it. Lots of kids in high school will end up in minimum wage jobs forever as careers which is a good thing. They have two choices: that or live at home and depend on parents/welfare

Or be stay at home dad/home.

I don't see a problem with it whatsoever. It's honest work, and there is a depressing number of people who can't even say that about their job, and a depressing number of those who really don't have much of a choice.

So really, it's quite respectable if you look at it that way.

But I still expect people to do their job properly and may still vent on CE when they don't.

Stretching it a bit there, but whatever.

I don't have a problem with people who work at fast food as their career. I just think it's kind of sad. If you want to make a career out of something in that vein, places like convenience stores and gas stations are significantly better choices even though they're kind of on the same "level" of employment.

They're possibly on the same initial level, but gas stations and c-stores have a lot less room for advancement in them and typically worse options for things like insurance

Having worked there briefly in highschool and college, it pays dirt if you're not a general manager, and even then general managers don't make much.

That aside, you encounter some insufferable coworkers and insufferable customers day in and day out.

That aside, it's chill during slow hours, the food is free, and the chill coworkers are legitimately chill. Also sometimes the girls you work with are easy.

That said, I don't look down on people that work there. Edit: Unless they screw up my order beyond comprehension.

To be fair, if you're a recent grad, you'll consider it long before you actually get a job in your field.

If you aren't working your way up through the ranks to management, it's a dead end job with no career development nor personal development. the skillset required to work a register and kitchen is fairly low.

Having said that, I don't personally look down on them. Different people have different values in life.

I have a high school diploma, 34 and worked my way through 2 retail jobs, two office jobs and now at an insurance company.

I process paperwork, and make changes, you know what is honest? me getting a yearly salary (its nothing too amazing, but I can live on my own).

When I go to a movie theater that I worked at and see the 2 or 3 people that still work there as regular employees (not managers) it depresses me.

That's a lie. We've been treating trade jobs as second class work for as long as people have been pushing college.

Not "we," just liberals.

"Society" treats those folks very by paying them lucrative, even six-figure salaries for their work. Whereas society treats McD's workers like shit by paying them minimum wage, which is the fair value of their unskilled labor.

As long as it's provided properly. Nothing worse than someone that can't even manage the smallest jobs.

Liberals dominate culture and culture has been downplaying the value of trade jobs compared to college to the point where we have a massive shortage of tradesman.

I respect anyone that works for a living, I expect McDonald's is a pretty stressful job to do day in, day out.

BUT absolutely no-one while still at school dreams of a future career doing unskilled work like a fast food joint our a call center, so you do wonder what went wrong, whether a lack of work ethic or just something unfortunate, that derailed their intended path.

The current conservative policies have produced the strongest economy in world history, lowest unemployment rate in decades, and greatest number of high-paying (yet unfilled) job openings in history. So which ideology are you referring to?

People complaining that "there are no jobs except fast food" are about 8 years out of date with reality.

For a lot of people, the best they can do is unskilled fast food

Either that or collect welfare.

Its a myth that everyone can get skills. I dont have any skills. Im good at:
Eating
Sleeping
Watching tv
Playing video game

They need high paying career for that
