My mum runs her own medical practice. I might inherit the business someday and will hire a family doctor when she retires. Will a business major help me?

The skills you learn in a business degree are very valuable. Accounting, finance, marketing, economics, and management are great skills to have when you are running your own business as a manager or an owner.

However, the business degree alone won't get you a job as a manager in a company as business majors are plentiful. You need to have relevant experience or a niche skill set to stand out in a job.

In your case, it seems you already have a job waiting for you when you graduate, so I think a business degree will be helpful.

a lot of schools offer some sort of program where you graduate with a BA in business and an MBA in 5 years. i highly suggest looking into that

A generic business degree really isn't anything, but there are several degrees that are typically part of a college of business that you can have a lot of success in like accounting, finance, management information systems, etc.

Business wouldn't be my first choice. But if there's nothing else you want to do and you can get the degree without a large amount of student loan debt then I don't think it's a bad decision.

A business degree is fine, but don't go with generic "business". Get an accounting, finance, MIS, marketing - something with an actual focus.

For the record, I would only go into marketing if you are really passionate about it and are willing to go above and beyond simply getting a degree. It's a ridiculously over-saturated major so there is a lot of competitions for the jobs and the pay is definitely on the low-end. That's not to say that you can't find success there, but simply graduate with a 3.0 GPA isn't going to do you a lot of good. You'll want a high GPA, internship experience, and solid extracurriculars.

dont do it TC, stay the **** away from the business field. Business degrees are meant to make you a cog in the corporate machine not run a business.

If anything, minor in business. Major in something economically valuable and competitive.
