I Feel You is probably my favorite.

Dream On and Personal Jesus are good, too.

I've never actually heard a full album of theirs, but from I have heard I'll say Sweetest Perfection. The demo version of it is really good too.

They were pretty much my favorite band when I was actually into music enough to have favorite bands. I got into them when Violator came out - Enjoy the Silence and Policy of Truth got me to buy the album and I liked most songs on it, so I started to work my way back through their other albums (at which point Some Great Reward sort of became my favorite album, just ahead of Violator). Then I tracked down most of their singles as well. And yes, I still have all of it on CD.

After that, I liked Songs of Faith and Devotion and Ultra - Exciter was a bit weaker for me, but I liked Playing the Angel. I couldn't really get into Sounds of the Universe, Delta Machine, or Spirit - I've pretty much fallen out of fandom, though I still love all the old songs.

I saw them live for the Singles Tour in '98, and Touring the Angel - I also got my copy of Playing the Angel signed by the band live in NYC. I've probably got a few posters, t-shirts, and concert programs stashed away somewhere, though they're packed away and I haven't really seen them for years.

I'm also an Erasure fan and a Yaz fan (both of which spun out of Depeche Mode in a way - Vince Clarke was a founding member of all three bands), but nowhere near as much.

It's super-hard for me to name my "favorite" song - I like different songs in different ways for different reasons, so which I like better tends to shift depending on my mood, and I have a hard time ranking anything in general... I tend to like what I like and dislike what I dislike. Still, I always thought Halo and Shake the Disease were kind of underrated in their back catalog, and I liked In Your Room (both the original version and the Zephyr mix by most of the people who went on to become the band Garbage). Sun and the Rainfall is a great early song, and Photographic is a pretty cool early song as well (though I think I like the Some Bizzare mix better). Lie to Me and Stories of Old are probably my favorites off Some Great Reward, but Somebody is an awesome song if you're in the right mood. Question of Time and Sacred are great, and as previously mentioned Enjoy the Silence and Policy of Truth were great off Violator. Barrel of a Gun and It's No Good are both great (and my one friend and I still occasionally do the "It's no good, baby!" line from the video, and I really liked John the Revelator and Precious. Ask me on a different day, and I might include other songs in that list as well - from the second to the ninth or so albums I like pretty much every song, and for the first and the tenth and eleventh I generally like at least half of what's on the album, if not more. It's really only after that that my interest starts to wane.

A friend of mine once said that people who liked older Depeche Mode should just listen to Muse these days for new music with the same sort of flavor, and I kind of agree.

I don't like them but then again I haven't listened to much of their stuff.

"Policy of Truth" is my favorite of their songs.

I didn't like them at first. Had a classmate that played them all the time. ALL THE TIME. As a DJ, I had to play them almost daily. Felt like there was no winning this battle.

Years later when I wasn't being "forced" to listen to them, I actually found some of their music enjoyable.
