Question I have been meaning to ask. Why try and cause flame wars over someone's opinions?

Personally I enjoy having discussions and maybe debates with others regardless of our differences but if it gets a bit too heated and devolve into a hurl of insults, questioning each other intelligence, etc. that's when I would back up and ask myself "Why am I spending time arguing with a stranger over the internet who I will probably never meet in real life and who has no bearing on my life at all."

I'd imagine for some, especially those with an ego, want that feeling of knowing they're right, at least in their mind, and that they beaten someone in a discussion. Heck, even me writing this wall of text is partly fueled by ego and that desire to be noticed.

To each his own but I sometime ask myself, "How am I benefiting from this discussion?" or "How can I benefit others through my input". If neither no longer applies, I step out. Trying to support my stance with others serves me no purpose if the other side isn't willing to listen so why would I continue wasting time and effort to form a rebuttal. Sometimes the internet is just a bunch of walls talking to each other.

And then there's this. I'd imagine there's studies on the effects of limited or lack of social interactions over long periods.

sometimes i find it funny and sad that other people really get into hissy fits when I make a topic discussion about movies, tv shows, comic booksand they piss on my honest opinions on what I really think of them.

sometimes I wish gamefaqs would go back to the ways of 1998 and 1999 when there was no messageboards for movies, horror, etc.

Bring back the live chat which would be great for chatting with the game developers.

I remember the Resident Evil 3 Nemesis live chat back in the day.

It's a life lesson and hard to take in and do

I post here to pass time for my own amusement. Only a few posters I generally care about but it's still good to see some posters here have the same issues in life as I do and the internet is a good place to vent. Also I'm just simply better than some posters and need to prove that by my witty responses.

They don't really care.

For some (I've been here) it just triggers an anger rush and a retaliatory response is their coping mechanism.

Other people get away with it because they just got done with school and think they have nothing else to do before they go off to college or start working
