Not because I'm heartless, but because my dog is damn near always at my side, if the parents and toddler are passed out I'd likely have no way to locate them. I'd grab my dog and try to run out of the building and hope the others got out okay. I'm not going to wander through fire while I'm likely panicking to go look for someone else. I'd get out and try to get help there immediately.
