Youre not perfect for any of them. The requirements listed and the actual job have nothing in common.

Are you perfect for it because you have an interest in it or are you perfect because you have valuable skills and experience that would let you succeed in that job?

I've interviewed a fair few people before who can't tell the different.

If you're offering the same minimum requirements skill set that 50+ other applicants also are, then you're just playing a lottery.

You never hear anything, despite the position repeatedly being re-posted over months & constant claims from people who work stating how much they need help, until you find out they've hired a burnout that does nothing but get high in the restroom when no one is around.

When I lost my "main" job and was only working part time I applied at tons of fast food places and retail stores. Didn't hear back from most, what I did hear back was basically, "well you have a good resume so you'd probably leave us soon so we don't want to bother hiring you."

The latter, like my resume's experience is dead on exactly what they are looking for

I interviewed for a massive company and they were completely fucking clueless about what they wanted. tl;dr they thought my experience in CAD software A wouldn't carry over to CAD software B even though I've worked with both for years and they are designed to be as similar as possible (I hadn't used B professionally for 3 years though so they thought I was lying when I said I was proficient in it).

Suffice it to say the posting is still up months later, I hope the opportunity cost of holding out for the pErFeCt CaNdIdAtE has screwed them over by now

Yeah, that's pretty terrible. Even if you weren't 100% proficient in it, it wouldn't take long to get up to speed. Much better than having no one at all in the position for months and months.

It's not exactly improbable that Clear may have written "i work for 40 hours and 40 hours only, don't expect me to work anything more than that" as the intro to his cover letter.

A hiring manager at a company actually called me up and said that my resume was a breath of fresh air, exactly what they were looking for in a pile full of duds. He is forwarding my information directly to the department lead I'd be working for. Usually some clueless headhunter contacts me at this point so I am surprised an actual employee called me up.

I am employed full time. I am looking to leave because it is a toxic environment and I do not belong. Also because I have been here for 3 years with zero room for growth so it's time for a diagonal promotion. I need to look out for myself.

I'm wondering if that is what has been happening to me for the last two months. My last job title was "associate manager", but it wasn't much more than cashiering with end of day stuff. But somehow I guess I'm not qualified to work big box stores unloading trucks and stocking shelves on overnight shifts. Guess when your last job lasted 9 years, they assume you are one of those people who changes jobs like other people change underwear.
