Like wearing a trilby. How do you convey that you're not SERIOUS about wearing it and that you're just co-opting the look because you find it humorous?

Why are you so easily embarrassed by something that doesnt effect you?

Second-hand embarrassment is a thing. Like someone being obliviously cringe while everyone else looks on and dies a little inside.

you'd probably need to regularly spout sarcastic one liners. "in this moment I am euphoric", etc.

There is no such thing as doing something ironically. People just use that word as an excuse to do something most people annoying or stupid. You still did it, doesn't matter the reason.

This, I use words like "yeet" because it's annoying and is completely unserious.

I say "I'm not trying to be ironic or funny but..."

I said that to the nurse when I had to go in for an emergency visit after my surgery for a deviated septum and I developed an infection in my nose. You could smell it from outside of my nose.

I told her "my nose smells."

You could carry a sign that says "It's not a trilby, it's a fedora".

Nope, that would be stupid (or "ironic"), unless you are a Frank Sinatra impersonator.

I wear a trilby because I like it. And, like Miller said, it keeps the rain off my head.

@JOExHIGASHI : I've done that, but not while wearing a trilby. With a hakama, instead.

If you have to convince someone that you're doing something ironically, because it isn't immediately innately obvious, you probably shouldn't be doing that thing in the first place.

To paraphrase a piece of wisdom I heard years ago, the problem with repeating memes in an attempt to be ironic and make fun of them is that eventually you basically just become the annoying person you were making fun in the first place.

The line between parody and parroting is razor-thin.

I've probably felt more second-hand embarrassment over the course of my life than I have actual embarrassment for things I've actually done myself.

It's part of why I can't watch "prank" shows or "stunt" shows where the people are basically just making asses of themselves for attention. I don't find it funny, I just cringe a bit and think less of the people doing it.

Never did get the idea of doing things ironically. But eh. I can't think of any way to make people think you're doing something ironically without being obnoxious.

Do things or don't. People will judge you or they won't.
