just found out i'm only at level 1 for the Creator badge

going over every game in my backlog/remotely interested in playing and deciding whether they're worth playing/finishing instead of actually playing them and finally giving some games the ax once and for all.

because i like planning to do stuff more than actually doing stuff

how long can i keep this up

DQIV - i know nothing about this game and the only reason it is on here is because of the dancer character being so hot. never played a DQ but i'd imagine maybe VIII or XI would be better starting points. hard to imagine actually finishing this.

FFVI - not the biggest FF fan but whatever it's a big game so i figure i should actually check it out eventually. familiar enough with the character designs to catch my interest and i'd be pretty committed to finishing this if i started it unless there was some frustratingly tedious section that i for some reason couldn't get past or required a ton of grinding

Sonic 3 - i got to like the desert stage (? or whichever one was stage 4) when i was like 13? i did recently play this again a little more recently (~months ago) and i got to Marble Garden but haven't gone back since. eh it might be time to give up on this.

Super Metroid - never played. most likely will play at some point when it's on a system i actually own

Chrono Trigger - have owned this game on DS for like 7 years or something. i got like an hour or two in, decided i liked it enough and put it on hold. obviously have not returned to it since. i could see my personal final score being anywhere from 7 to 9/10.

Yoshi's Island - got to like world 4 and never went back for some reason. maybe i thought Baby Mario was too annoying or something. or maybe it was that i sucked too much and couldn't get past a level.

Kirby Super Star - which i put on this list after realizing i actually liked Kirby (as a character) and also that the only Kirby games i had played was Amazing Mirror years ago and Tilt n Tumble

NiGHTS into Dreams... - this was one i was looking forward to for a long time. i really loved the aesthetic of the game from the first time i saw footage. and whatnot but when i played it, i didn't get very far and i didn't find it very fun at the time. definitely want to revisit it to make sure.

Persona 1 - literally only here because it's Persona. i'll probably hold off on this forever in the hopes of some kind of remake that will never happen

Super Mario 64 - i've never actually played any of this. 3D mario doesn't really grab me but i got to at least check this out i suppose. again, i can't imagine actually finishing this ever but who knows.

DQ4 is a fine starting point for the Dragon Quest series - probably better than DQ8 and DQ11, both of which are absolutely mammoth. Yoshi's Island and Super Mario 64 are both phenomenal games.

i think that would be fine if i was intending to play through multiple games in the series but this could potentially be the only DQ i ever play so the question is more "would i be ok with it being the only game in the series i'll ever play?"

well it wasn't the only reason to play, just the only reason that i knew of to play by default because i knew nothing else about the game. but yeah i kind of already was prepared to give it the ax after i typed all that out and compared it to the others in this first batch. although i do think Maya is hotter than Jessica/Jade.

so i looked some stuff up about the game. i think the structure is really cool. they do that thing where they give you multiple storylines and they all converge near the end. saw some gameplay footage, looks fine.

DQ Heroes is better

i literally found out about this game's existence like two hours ago. looks way better for pick up and play which is honestly more my preference since there's no commitment. not putting on my backlog/list but i did put it on my steam wishlist on the chance that years down the line when i have nothing to do and it's on sale for almost nothing, i can play it for like 30 minutes and never return to it. because it's definitely not worth $60 lmao

so yeah i've made my peace with this and i'm okay with never playing DQIV

The remake already happened. It's on PSP, and while it's still only an okay game, it's a massive improvement over butchered PS1 localisation.
