This is why people tend to prefer dogs over cats.

Dogs have been bred over thousands of years to be blank slates. They are what you make them to be. If you get one dog it's really no different from any other dog.

Cats, however, have wildly differing personalities from one another. One cat may be skittish and aloof, while the other is constantly in your face. This is because cats are a bit more "feral" and self-domesticated than dogs are.

As such, living with a cat is a lot like living with another person, you have to get used to the way they do things and develop a relationship accordingly. Whereas with dogs you just scold them and they'll do your bidding.
