Nah. Ive told her before that I wished she would do it. Sometimes when Im sad, and sometimes during fights. Its just one of those things that I can tell is never gonna happen. I even try and golden rule it and I ask her every day how was work and listen to her talk about it.

Usually I dont care, but right now I did.

I came home once and asked my mum how was work. 30 mins later whilst she was still explaining I realised fuck me I wish Id never asked.

My mom was like this and would go into fits of rage and screaming that no one loved her if we didn't immediately ask as soon as she walked in...

My advice is to try and be a little more aware? If she never asks, then there's a problem (or she just really doesn't care about your work, or you just give a one word generic answers all the time), but expecting it as soon as you get home is kindda silly. Wait for a more fluid time? Especially if your answer is "fine" all the time.

We place too much emphasis on asking how people are doing, especially complete strangers, as a form of greeting. I'm pretty sure the clerk at the coffee shop doesn't want to hear about my latest gout attack, and how I'm stressed out because my wife doesn't want to "play" with me ever and the kids are not doing as well as they should in school. . .I understand that loved ones should show more caring, but. . .we shouldn't ask if we don't want the answer, either.

She probably doesn't give a crap. Most people are generally pretty selfish, but honestly if she doesn't care enough to ask about your day at least occasionally, not sure you can expect a lot of empathy from her in the future.

People show care in different ways, maybe GF shows it in another way that TS is just completely blinded to. *shrugs*

This was nothing that turned into a fight or anything that I mentioned at all last night to her, but I have my new job being the boss at my store and it means a lot to me. All I want is for her to show interest. Its obvious she isnt interested or else she would ask. And thats fine. But sometimes when I come home, I just want that interest, and it makes me sad inside when I dont get it. I dont pout or act sad, Im not passive aggressive. Youd never even know I was sad.

I was merely using gamefaqs as an outlet to say that I was sad.

Only thing is for you to show her how it's done. Start by asking how her day was when you get home, then move it over to talking about your day.

Work was crazy. A transformer exploded and we didnt have power, so we were closed the whole day. We lost probably 2000$ in food, and when they finally got the power working, one of our fridges on the line broke. I called the repair guy in and it is going to cost 1700$ to fix. A new one is 2500$. Supposedly pg&e is going to reimburse us for all losses, but the question is, really? Everything? And when? So now Im trying to figure out if I should get this fridge fixed or if I should start the process of getting a new one.

And on top of that I am firing my first employee ever today. Im terrified and sad about doing it, but it needs to be done.

Thanks for asking, guys. I really appreciate it.

It was a dependability issue. Too many call ins, never on time, then on Monday he no called no showed and called in on Tuesday so I made the decision the time is now to end his employment with us.

Im actually waiting for him to get here to do the deed. Nervous.

I know I'm the type of person that will get asked a question about my weekend/day/whatever, respond, and then not return the favor. Its not that I don't care, its just not in me. I have to force myself to ask those questions and most of the time I'll forget. I've tried to make it stick and it just doesn't.

I'd probably just start telling.

People are different. See, for example...I don't like being asked "how was work?", especially every single days and I'm not fond of asking how it's going to others when there's nothing to talk about most of the time...forcing things like that is just stupid and awkward imo...if there's something to tell, the person will say it naturally, there's no need to force conversations on others.
