I remember watching it as it first aired, and wondering if something had happened to my connection. the final season was pretty weak, though, IMO. not bad, but not as good as some of its stronger seasons. I liked the endings to: Boardwalk Empire, Rome, and The Wire. But, the reason I was so upset was cause he is all of our alter ego, they watched him ramage through things, and shit all over people, and be a bully and an asshole, and cheered him on. A piece of media can be slightly crippled if the ending was bad, even if the beginning and middle were great. Endings look a lot easier to write than they are, because you really don't think about them when you're not a creator. I started watching the series live with my parents sometime in 04 when I was like, a junior in HS and then went back and watched the previous seasons and the one thing I remember about the finale was people being so pissed off because they thought the video cut, and then when they knew it was intentional they immediately shit all over Chase because it wasn't the "shoot em up" finale they expected. But anyone who seriously watched the series as a whole should have known that he NEVER was going to go that route. Season 5, with Buscemi as Tony B, was absolutely the "fan service" season that that Chase wrote after the ending of S4. But the ending of the show was always going to be Chase subverting expectations and teasing this inevitable war between the NY and NJ families that was never going to happen. But people were pissed because they wanted to see Tony either die in a blaze of glory or taken out unsuspectingly.
