I was raised by an old-school father who himself had an old-school father. I was trained to be repelled by the concept of men crying, and am now incapable of it. Now all my emotion can only be processed as either anger or sarcasm.

I've just barely avoided killing a man by drowning him in my tears. :P

I almost cried reading a true story in readers digest about a man with COPD that ran into a burning building to save a child knowing it could cost him life. He saved the child and it exasperated his condition but he knows it was worth the risk.

Are we talking about bawling out and noisy crying or just getting teary eyes? I get teary eyes with emotional scenes from some movies but haven't cried cried since my grandmother passed away 20 some years ago. I tend to suppress my emotions and even when my father passed away in 2010 I only got teary eyed. Granted in his case it was more because I was already emotionally prepared as his condition was very unlikely to improve.

I've literally been so hard on myself about it that sometimes I physically can't cry when I really need to. I'll tear up a bit easier when I'm super happy, but sad crying just doen't want to happen most of the time anymore.

I've come close to crying from being in pain, but even that doesn't want to happen really.

Id rather not break down in public but otherwise no. What scares me is fiction tugs at my heart strings much more than real life.

About the same I guess. Ive been abke to cry at the death of a few family members I really loved. Sure it had something to do with being a crybaby when I was younger and being constantly told I had to quit because boys dont cry and id be bullied for it.

That's been hit and miss with me, to be fair shock plays a part in that too. I DID have such a deep depressive and anxiety attack episode that I did cry a bit on the porch semi-recently. Hardly anything came out, but I was surprised I got to such a breaking point it actually happened at all. (Not quite out of the woods with what contributed to that, but I have reason to be hopeful at least. One way or another I'll know soon though, regardless.)

(I also have personal reasons, not the same ones but some of them are very bad nevertheless. The less bad being that I just hate to bother people. Seems to make people uncomfortable. Also been told quite a few times while dealing with diagnosed depression that 'no one likes a sad sack' and 'everyone will get tired of you and leave you if you're a downer'.)

Yeah the deatha I speak of we did see coming a mile away so yeah there was no shock. But I do feel bad I didnt even cry after putting my dog down. I attribute that to keeping pet rats when I was a teen though. They live such short lives and ive been through many.

It really makes me angry how badly boys are raised. There's no shame in human emotions and it's not fair or healthy to expect half the people on the planet to never cry. :(

I'm fine the way I am honestly. Not saying if I had a boy id do the same, just I like how I am so I'm not mad at my family for it.
