I'd usually end a Resident Evil and (especially) Silent Hill with large quantities of regular ammo, but also premium ammo (magnum, rifle, etc). Usually I'd just unload it on the final boss, which is effective duh, but completely unnecessary. Then I started using ammo whenever I felt like it and the games got much better.
