tl;dr I literally don't do anything and it's boring. It's a technical service desk for Veteran's Affairs, and they've downgraded our duties so heavily that we just sit around and browse on the computer. Our ONLY job is sending about one email a week or so saying we don't di anything anymore.

Worst - my job is tied to work done for clients 100% so theres a lot of instability and stress tied to that which is mostly out of my control except for positioning myself long term career wise.

Best - good vacation, awesome overtime when it kicks in, work culture is very masculine and anti pc in general so making new drinking buddies routinely is a given.

As a safety consultant, the best part of my job is when I feel that people are really learning the things I'm teaching them and taking them to heart, making them more safety conscious in their work.

By the same token, the worst part is when I teach people things, they ignore them, and make mistakes despite the knowledge.

Teacher

Good days are really fun and I get most major holidays/summers off

Worst - 2 or 3 students can completely destroy your classroom culture and ruin lessons for the other 20 that want to be there and learn. Admin can't or won't do anything about them.

@Captain_Qwark
I hear you dude. I used to teach as well. I loved having summers off and holidays and snow days. And I loved the students. They were never an issue for me really. It was administration that I despised. I felt like I couldn't teach how I wanted to, that they were breathing down my neck every day. And they didn't do a damn thing to students that did cause trouble. Just a slap on the wrist and pretty much undermined my authority in the classroom. I got out of teaching.

As for my current job, worst part is sitting at desk with no work to do. Time moves sloooooowwwww

Worst: Everyone asks me if it's okay before they do anything. I've trained most of the people that work under me well enough to not need to ask me every little thing. So its not even my people. It's mostly the heads of other departments. Their job has almost nothing to do with mine. I don't want to essentially run your department too.

Best: There's often models around so I get to chat up lots of hot girls. Even the regular staff is full of quite a few good looking women. It's a nice ego boost that they invite me to hang out with them outside of work too.

Swing shift, pretty sure it is going to kill me eventually

Best is flexibility. I have 12 hours of coverage, but if there is nothing to do I can leave and come back as needed. Don't get paid during times when I'm not there, but I make enough most of the time that it doesn't matter if I don't work all my hours.

At a previous job doing the same work it was 12 hour shifts,hours were mandatory. Often was not anything to do for a good part of the day

Worst: Periodically having to work under people who are completely incompetent at what they do, and who compensate by having overly aggressive behavior and strict, nonsensical rules.

Best: ... Yikes I don't know, on the flip side I've worked with some really great people, but I've also had unique travel opportunities that most people will never have.
