I really love those types of loot driven, level up and invest in skills types of games. Here's a probably incomplete list of ones I've played:

Came to post Path of Exile.
It's free to play, has a really interesting loot system - everything is upgradeable or modifiable as an item, from your skills to special challenge maps to certain treasure chests. Gameplay feels really tight too Only problem I had with it was that there aren't a lot of side quests :\ Torchlight Frontiers is also coming out relatively soon I think. It also promises some interesting mechanics, where each map (frontier) is something you can level up and there are some cool classes with unique mechanics, like a train engineer who lays down train tracks for his companion. And then I have to recommend Secret World Legends, which actually doesn't have a great loot system but damned if it isn't a fun world to explore :| --- FFXIV: Herzog Erislieb (Cactaur) | ESO: @Ultima_Vyse RS3: UltimaSuende . 99 WC/Fish/Cook/Fletch/Div ...
