The only place in the game's data where it appears is in the US version naming scene. If you skip the naming scene using a sequence break glitch, the game automatically dumps her into your party as Aerith. It means the localization team went out of their way to be wrong. This is NOT the same thing as, for example, Tina - Terra. Her name was Tina in Japan because they wanted an exotic sounding name. Well it turns out in the west Tina is actually a common name so it was localized/changed deliberately to maintain idiomatic accuracy. Canonizing a fucking error is absolutely not the way to handle the remake. See: the fate community is all rioting over "Altria" right now. You can tell, because there's a western demo that kept it with the TH so it was changed to S sometime after translation but before the full game was released. Why would they change her name and then change it back to Aerith for literally every other piece of FF VII content (including the remake)? Sega did the same with Robotnik by calling him Eggman in modern games. He will always be Robotnik to me though since thats what it was when I played the games as a kid. And I prefer Princess Toadstool than Princess Peach for the same reason. Super Mario 64 had both names in her letter at the start.
