It was really cute and alot of fun

I know from the first trailer, and Ryan Reynolds being attached to it, it wasn't gonna be super Kiddy but I was still surprised over how adult some scenes got

Like masturbation jokes, drug jokes, and the whole dad was murdered thing in the beginning. Hell, it straight up showed Mewtwo (indirectly) killing those scientists

but yea, the thing is

Sure, this movie isn't super deep or anything. I saw it with my older bro and my mom and me and him like discussing movies

we...didn't really have anything to say

but thats what I'm tryin to say, I don't think people should judge this movie harshly

It was just a fun, nostalgic ride. Its not trying to reshape the cinematic history or anything. I hear people saying "its too cliche" like a bad thing. its just a kids movie. There wasn't anything super wrong with it.

but yea, my bro doesn't know much about Pokemon, hes 10 years older than me so he was in his early 20s when Pokemon dropped, but he said it was easy to follow and he enjoyed it.

The movie didn't completely dive in and was only meant for the fans, they did a good job for casuals too, but they also didn't completely dumb it down either

this was surprisingly a really good movie.

I will say that I didn't see some twists and some of the plot points coming

I haven't played the game so I dunno how much it draws from that

but Pikachu being his dad was something I wasn't expecting

and I really liked Mewtwo's voice too

It was alot of fun trying to relive some of the old days

Like I was thinking "It IS feasible for a Pikachu to beat Charizard if he hits him with enough Thunderbolts"

and "Oh snap Magikarp in the background, I hope Gyarados shows up (he does)"

and I figured no matter how much heart of the cards he has, theres no way a Pikachu can beat Mewtwo in a straight fight, and they did stick with that

I was upset I saw Mewtwo in one of the trailers, but hes one of the first things you see so it wasn't so bad

but yea, thats all I can think of to say, its a good time

Detective Pikachu is pretty much the most "it's fine" movie I have ever seen
I honestly can't understand people that hate it, and neither can I understand people that really love it
It was just average in every possible way

I liked Ditto as the sort of Bond henchmon. The movie is fine. I wouldn't say it's the most "It's fine" movie (probably better) but it's fine.

I got Pikachu and Jigglypuff but I traded Jigglypuff to my friend for Lickitung.

Looking at the set, Lickitung is by far my favorite pokemon in it, other than I guess Charmander so I'm good with that.

Technically Ditto is able to completely transform without its eyes being different but it was a reference to Duplica's Ditto from the anime who couldn't change its eyes/face for some time.

That's kind of something they've retconned. It seems like most Ditto that appear in Pokemon media now have that problem. Google image search "Ditto EX Delta Species".

the sunglasses to cover the Ditto eyes thing was clever

Tears welled up in my eyes when they showed the 2D Pokemon-style art of all the characters. I'm not sure why, but it was amazing. I loved it so much.

yeah those credits were really great. Makes you appreciate that there were actually people involved with the movie who care about the source material unlike most other video game movies.

Saw it earlier tonight and enjoyed it for what it was.

Dittos death reminded me of the end of T2 after the T1000 gets knocked into the hot steel

Omg I freaking loved it! I couldn't get over how cute Pikachu was the entire movie lol. He's always lowkey been my favorite Pokmon and now I want my own irl Pikachu so bad.

And yeah for some reason, the ending credits made me so happy. Everyone looks so good in the official Pokmon artstyle!

I enjoyed it quite a bit. It lived on being a universe known and loved in the sense that I would probably have been super bored, if you replace Pokemon with original creatures made for this and otherwise have the exact same movie.

Most Pokemon were great, other than the obvious Pikachu and Psyduck, I loved Ludicolo in particular.

For what is was, it was surprisingly loyal to the games. I'm one of those who thought "Greninja is not supposed to take damage from Psychic attacks", but then I excused it by thinking that if all the Greninja had protean, they had all used water shuriken before being hit, so it works.
