At best, they end up ruining the series by turning it into a half-assed version of some popular franchise (Shadow the Hedgehog, Sonic Unleashed), at worst they end up deciding that the series no longer appeals to enough of a demographic to be profitable and you lose any possibility of a product that is to your liking (countless series). People often make fun of the Sonic fandom, and rightfully so, but they have been very steadfast in complaining (primarily) in two directions since the dreamcast games: - Roughly 45% of them want a Sonic Adventure 3. - Roughly 45% of them want(ed) a new genesis-style game. - The remaining 10% want other stuff like a new Sonic Rush, a new Adventure but with Sonic only, are fine with the current games, etc. The reason that Sonic is a laughingstock in the gaming world is because Sega refused, for years, to listen to either of the primary groups. Its fine to do your own thing with your own franchise, but then the onus is on you if it doesnt sell. They finally released a new genesis-style game and, unsurprisingly, it was best received Sonic game in 17 years. Thats awfully optomistic about pessimistic people. --- Don't like it? Don't watch it. Argumentum ad populum holds that a view isnt necessarily true just because its popular. We arent discussing anything true or false. Our argument begins and ends at popularity.
