Board 8 > Tales of Berseria Question

So I'm playing through the game and not using a guide to avoid spoilers.

I've just done the part with Lothringen - Tower of the Exorcists. I noticed there was an extra dungeon (maybe?) and the ability to get back to Vortingern. Against my better judgment I reported back to Reneed instead of exploring figuring I could come back straight after or that would possibly be where it directed me next but it seems like it won't let me back there now and is forcing me to head to Yseult.

Did I miss out on anything? Like I assume it will let me back there later but is there anything I missed by not going there now even if it's just story / cutscenes? Or would it not have let me go that way if I tried anyway?

You will be able to come back there, yes. If i remember correctly, some of the enemies in that extra dungeon were a pain at that level anyway

There might have been some of those minor uhh, portrait dialogue scenes but I'm pretty sure there is nothing major

What about Katz boxes? I know for sure I left one unopened on the assassination mission. It was just before the trapped daemon. I didn't have enough souls and it wouldn't let me go back there afterwards

Same here, I stopped right before the final dungeon.

Turns out I was playing mostly for the story but didn't like the gameplay that much. I think I'll watch the end on youtube.

I fired it up and I'm like "I think I finally understand the combat."

That doesn't mean you can't just ignore them and button mash on normal difficulty, but they exist

This. The Tales series has some of the deepest and most satisfying battle systems in video gaming, but most people don't want to engage with them and you can totally just mash through on the lower difficulties, so it goes a bit underappreciated.

True, but Velvet's Break Soul is still pretty broken even on Chaos.

Also true! She's darn near Ludger levels of broken, or arguably even moreso if you're just talking pure survivability. I spent most of Berseria playing as other members of the party and just breaking out Velvet when I felt like running hog wild. Eizen and Rokurou are both ridiculously fun to play.
