A White Virginia Police Officer who cursed at black middle school students and PROMISED to publicly apologize at their school has BACKED OUT of the agreement and will no longer honour the signed agreement because he's SCARED of them!!

The officer, whose name isn't being released said he can't "handle" the large setting to the kids he offended according to Richmond interim police chief William Smith. The chief confirmed the officer was white however

A video was recorded in March showing him rolling down his window at Albert Hill Middle School kids and said "Wait until your asses turn 18, then you're mine"

He apologized to those students and their guardians last week and signed an agreement with them to publicly apologize at a school assembly to resolve this situation but has now backed out of it and said he can't do it

The Chief said he's sorry for not upholding his agreement and said "But since then, he has reconsidered that promise and no longer feels he could handle the much larger setting of a school assembly. He wants me to pass along his sincere apology for what he said that day and add another apology for not being able to meet with the entire school. I believe that if there is any good that has come out of this, it is that the Richmond Police Dept has developed stronger, much more positive and hopeful"

Student Cameron Hilliard who filmed the incident said someone from outside of their group yelled "f*** the police" as she and her classmates were on their way to an after school program.

The 13 y/o said it wasn't their group that said it but the officer put his car in reverse and singled them out and asked them who said it and then told them to MAN UP before making another remark at them

She showed it to her mother, Keisha Curry who felt like a comment like that is disturbing to middle aged kids and said "It makes us think that some officers can be rude and not all officers are here to serve us"

As a result, the officer was removed from patrolling the area and will undergo "mandatory remedial training" and has expressed regret for his actions and he voluntarily requested to speak and apologize to the parents and signed an agreement to speak to the school about it but has now backed his way out of it leaving everyone confused.

Do you think this cop should be allowed to weasel out of this?

Kinda wonder how quickly an area would become pro-cop if cops just left the area and didn't respond to *any* kind of crimes -- even the severe ones -- for a while.

Lmao what a pushover. Easy for him to talk shit and intimidate kids when he's in his car but can't apologize in person to a larger group even when in a literal safe space at a school. I could understand if he was being asked to apologize in a bad neighborhood out in the open but this is completely different.

Explicitly not being able to handle a public apology to kids certainly makes it look that way. And comparing an apology to death automatically throws your argument into question.

Not that I think the public apology was necessary in the first place, but he had already agreed to it in writing. At least keep your word.

It wont be just kids. Its gonna be staff, parents, etc. Its theatre. It's ridiculous to demand a public apology to a giant crowd. It's not like he said anything outrageous. They said fuck you and what he said was honestly a pretty civil response to kids that sound like they need some discipline

For one thing, it would go a long way toward dispelling that "fuck the police" mentality, seeing an officer apologize and take responsibility for his actions in public. But going back on his word is just adding fuel to the fire now.

No. Theyre kids. Kids say dumb things all the time. Some grow out of it or learn better. Some dont. Just because they said something dumb or stupid doesnt mean their whole future is decided. Which you seem to think by what you said. In the end, instead of holding these kids to higher standards, maybe the cop should be held to a higher standard. As the adult and part of a team made to protect the people he was yelling at. We teach our kids not to stoop down to others levels. Like when a younger sibling says something bad to you, and you say something back. Parents would say not to stoop down to their level. But you seem to think its fine for cops to do something we teach our kids not to do...
