Sometimes. I mean, nothing wrong with a standard fight either.

The giant cyborg armadillosaur from Ninja Gaiden 2 was hilarious, as is the hotfoot method in Dark Souls.

Some others I can think of are Del Lago from RE4, a couple of Kirby bosses (Return to Dreamland's final boss, Planet Robobot's True Arena) and Ra's from Arkham City.

I like it.

I like playing games thematically so its always nice to have a special boss finisher instead of the fight just ending in the middle of one of their pre-scripted moves.

Common trope in RE games where you get a super powerful weapon to finish off the final boss.

There's a boss in FF6 that hits you with Ultima when it dies, and if you're not prepared it will wipe your party which is pretty brutal.

I don't mind a specially scripted ending to a boss as long as it's fun or cool. Like, I enjoy how RE does it but I don't care how FF tends to have them loose some bullshit OP spell on you.

RuneScape comes to mind.

Stakes to kill Vampyres, salt to kill rock slugs, hammers to kill gargoyles etc.

Its annoying if you miss click though.

Dagoth Ur in Morrowind too, gotta slap the heart so he doesnt come back.

Pretty much every boss in Pandora's Tower was like that. After taking out the bosses life bar you had to rip it's flesh from their body using your holy chain so you can feed it to your girlfriend.

Killer Instinct 2 requires you to hit Gargos with a combo that knocks him high into the air otherwise he just gets back up and regains a little bit of life.

Kind of shitty on higher difficulties because of how super accurate the AI is with combo breakers.

I think the best is games where you have a "regular" portion of the boss fight and then the special requirement one (like Earthbound for an RPG example). Then you get to truly show your game "chops" but also get the thematic/story aspect as well.
