If it's from Petco it probably won't last a week. So don't get attached to it quickly. Start out by naming it Temp1.

This is an awful idea, they don't make very good pets, and they stink and shit a whole lot. You should get a small 10 gallon aquarium or something instead, they are more interesting, require a bit of education and proper chemistry, and fish are therapeutic and relaxing. I almost guarantee you the hamster will bite you on more than one occasion.

I had a few hamsters growing up and they didn't stink much. Just make sure their bedding is changed like once or twice a week (maybe more, I don't remember tbh)

The thing about them biting is probably true though, I reflexively flung my brother's hamsters at the ceiling so many fucking times, poor things. Last hamster I encountered though was my nephew's a few years ago and I held it a bunch without getting bitten so maybe I was just doing something wrong as a kid, idk
