I had a few hamsters growing up and they didn't stink much. Just make sure their bedding is changed like once or twice a week (maybe more, I don't remember tbh) The thing about them biting is probably true though, I reflexively flung my brother's hamsters at the ceiling so many fucking times, poor things.
