I just need to completely change everything about my life. I can't get risk getting cancer again. This shit sucks. I know my cancer wasn't caused by the foods I eat or lack of exercise or anything since my oncologists are pretty sure it was from high exposure to radiation during hospital visits when I was a teenager (I got constant x-rays when I was younger to make sure a machine in my skull was working properly) but still, any chance to not get cancer I need to take.

Good on ya, man. Everything in moderation, too, though. Having a pound of non-red meat every 2 or 3 weeks won't likely hurt you either though, but that's not me trying to tell you to not have any concern. Because out of 99% of this board, we're definitely not qualified to speak on this topic to the level that you're able to. Whatever makes you lead a more comfortable and meaningful life moving forward is the most wonderful decision you can make and I hope it's the best one too.

I guess you're right. I actually did not eat red meat until I was diagnosed with cancer, I only started eating it because my oncologists said it is the best way to boost your red cell levels.

I wouldn't. Cutting out whole food groups could upset your system in other ways. Eating in moderation is always the key. This way you can still enjoy your favorite meals. I mean you've been through enough misery, although if you just started then maybe it won't be a drastic change.

Get rid of dairy. Cutting back on the meat and going vegetarian is great, but dairy is just as closely tied to cancer risk

Best of luck and wishes to you in your treatment and recovery, whatever path you take

My dad's oncologist would disagree

But it depends on how much you want to improve your odds

There's probably stuff they'd say to never eat, like bacon. They're always changing their mind though. Years ago eggs were bad or something. There are nutrients in all foods that aren't easy to replace if you decide to go veggie. My old boss went on a crash diet and it messed him up a little. I know I won't give up dairy, love my milk and cheese. How could it even be bad?

Red meat and bacon are associated with an increase in colon cancer rates. Now, that increase is on the order of 1% (additive, from 5% to 6%), and I haven't heard any suggestions on what role dosage plays in it, but it's nonetheless been an observed correlation.

Most things have been said to cause cancer, though, tbh. I think Ive even read about certain vegetables having a chance to cause cancer. And I read microwave popcorn as being in some of the foods that could cause it...

Cheese is my main reason for not going. You boss going on a diet reminded me of something. I have a friend whos GF went on a vegan diet. Apparently, she was grumpy all the time. And didnt really feel good. So, she gave it up and went back to her regular eating habits and felt better afterwards.

That's cancer societies saying it's a risk...

The type of dairy and cancer matters, but yes dairy does carry health risks, and is cause for concern when you're talking cancer

Oh totally. I worked with someone who used crash diets before going on vacation. Those were the times of her worst attitudes.
