got a job at an agency, but their office is in a little town that's not so great.

The closest major city is about an hour away, so there's my commute. Yay.

I'm just imagining the wear and tear on my car more than anything else

I do local(ish) medical deliveries, driving ~200-250 miles per day. I used to just listen to music, but recently started listening to audiobooks. I didn't think I could sit through listening to books but it's actually pretty great. The only thing that sucks is how expensive they are, usually about the cost of a hardcover, and it only takes me about 3 days at work to get through an average size book. But I also know there's no other way I'll get through the Dark Tower series lol

I have no idea. I'm only on my third audiobook and have about $100 in iTunes gift cards. I'll look into it after I burn through those lol

Why do you have to live in a major city?

Bryfang posted...
I literally moved to an apartment near my job to murder my nearly 1h:30/45m commute. I went from pocket change rent with my mom to eating ramen noodles, but its so worth it.

Fuck commuting.

So these are my general feelings.

HOWEVER

As a young single dude in my mid-20s, moving to a tiny town with no one to meet for 2 years would absolutely bring my life to a screeching halt.

Living in the city I can go to events, meet new people, date, and so on.

Why not live closer to town since you'll be working more than you will be enjoying your free time and just drive to the city when you feel like doing something

Why not live closer to town since you'll be working more than you will be enjoying your free time and just drive to the city when you feel like doing something

Because

1. It's harder to meet people in the city when I'm in the town.
2. If I get invited to a movie, some coffee, etc, during the week, it's infinitely harder to make those things happen if I have to drive an hour AFTER work to meet someone, then drive back home.

There are no options between the town and the city. it's either or

I did that for about 2 years. Freaking commuter trains and all the delays. Nothing worse than finding out your hour and fifteen minute trip now is delayed and everyone has to deboard the train and wait thirty+ minutes for another one since they can't send out a chain of buses after a certain time of night, which is also when I'd be finished with work.
