It was founded by racists, and is still overwhelmingly white outside of the like 3 major cities, and even then? West of Portland is mostly white, East of Portland is mostly white, then Hispanic, then black, then white again once you're in Gresham. Want to guess where most of these videos are taken?

Oregon as a whole is very white. Even Portland, for as progressive as it is, is very overwhelmingly white. When I went to Portland and Seattle I was surprised to see such a small amount of diversity in both places.

People think the PNW is some liberal utopia which confuses me as to why. It's one of the most virulent, violent hotbeds of racism in America. Hate crimes out the ass, assaults are common and interracial couples attacked or harassed regularly. The racism towards black people is especially bad.

Keep in mind that over a dozen states *cough the south and bible belt* are in one of three categories
1) hate crimes aren't legally recognized
2) hate crimes are recognized but the person committing the act has to explicitly state they're committing the crime against (member of a certain race or gender) on the sole basis of that person being that particular type of (race or gender)
3) 2, but they don't recognize crimes against LGBT people as hate crimes

And even in the cases of 2 and 3, they don't always affect the sentencing any, nor do they modify certain crimes into violent crimes.

Forgetting crime classifications incidents like this are extremely common in the whole Pacific Northwest, right up there with any southern state and surpassing most actually. This incident was also not recorded as a hate crime, FYI.
