The kickstarter was for an OVA, guess it got enough backers and sales to warrant making a full fledged anime about it.

I've actually never played/read the novel, I'm just not into the whole "watch this faceless dork protagonist get laid" genre.

Though it does remind me of my favorite skit from SMT: Liberation. (Ironically, also involving a catgirl.)
