You probably can beat the story, but that's really not the point of Disgaea games. If memory serves, the final boss of the story mode is like level 80, when the level cap is 9999 and you can store 168,000 additional levels by reincarnating the character. The games are kind of all about postgame grinding.

You can beat the story mode without *much* grinding, but that's really not where the meat of the game lies.

If you're having trouble, spend a bit of time in the Item World for your best character's weapon. It will simultaneously make said weapon stronger AND level up your party.

Beyond that, Disgaea doesn't really have much strategy for an SRPG, at least not in actual combat. It's all about how you kit out and prepare your characters.

I've played a few of these and to me one of the best parts of 5 are the evilties. More specifically the unique evilties for each unit.

Archers for example will provide follow up attacks to an enemy when your other guys attack it, provided you're in range. Warriors gain huge stat increases with the more enemies they're surrounded by. Girl mages can cast spells for half the SP cost but they deal less damage, etc etc.

And that's not including all the hero units' evilties.

TL;DR: All the unique evilties are really pretty good and have their own applications.

That's probably the worst part of 5. At least the hub theme in D1 was pretty awesome. And not the "from the bottom..... of my HEAARRT" cringe-inducing song you'll hear a zillion times while playing 5.

Yes, level you thief up and add Marksman specialists to your Stealing Hands. Steal good items from enemies in the Item World with them, there's lots of great stuff there.

I should really play D2 soon, then, since my friend gifted it to me for Christmas. I thoroughly enjoyed 1's gameplay.

D2 really improved the Item World a lot- They made the stages smaller but there's more going on and there's lots of interesting new geo panel powers. There's also side rooms you can go into that can have different events happen (Mystery Rooms I think they're called).

Bows were greatly improved upon as well- The range is better and killing an enemy with a bow has a chance for that enemy to drop a treasure chest. Bows were also improved through the nerfing of guns, which can now only shoot in a super long (but straight) line.

Best unit in D2, or at least the most interesting, is the flying French frog. He can assume two modes- normal and a pissed off mode where he's red. Put some +movement items on him and he can get you through a LOT of item world floors. He's also one of the only characters in the game that's actually funny.

Of course it's part 5. I'm less familiar with that one compared to the other ones.

Try to make a sage. Magic Knight Rank 4 + a Professor Rank 2 to unlock.

They will destroy everything and is the best class in the game.

don't worry about item world or leveling up.... if you get stuck you can power level... but try not to go over board because you can break the game.

try to buy the best gear to unlock better teir shop and try to buy one best gear again. (dont' try to go for best gear for everyone. Two or three characters having the best gear is good enough and there hand me downs are good for the rest of the group)

Always die at the end of the chapter boss because they might have an ending... luckily in this game you don't have to start back in chapter 1 again... but it was kind of nice in the other games because you can gain power level through the older levels to reach where you where faster.

in post game go for statistician. they increase the exp you get. Professionals make sure you critic (having 100 of them will let you critic on every hit.).Professionals make it a lot easier to power level, because you can't miss and you hit the hardest. Manager is for leveling up your skills.

Don't Reincarnation unless you can make the character into a genius.

Bribe the senator. Buy a shit load of candy, hand, lowest cost of weapon and armor, I think some want glasses too. And just give it to people that can want it that loath you that has the highest level. Soon everyone will love you.

Another good tip: Try not to kill any of your units, whether accidentally or on purpose, because that will change the ending you get (... unless you want that sort of ending).
