I mean I get the idea that as a good employee, you should be solving problems. However, why would I come to you in the first place if I already figured it out? And if I can't bring you problems, then what are you even here for?

Many employees make absolutely no attempt to think of any solution to a problem. Usually they're smart enough but they don't have the self confidence or they're outright too lazy.

If you force them to at least think about the problem and attempt to formulate a plan they'll either build confidence or break bad habits.

Both are great for the employee and the boss. The employee can learn how to become more valuable and get more money. The boss doesn't have to deal with as much stress because they've built a great team.
