I'm charmed by Evie Frye, she's a real cutie. I didn't think I'd play as her much, thought I'd prefer exclusively Jacob but I'm liking Evie more than him even gameplay wise.

The grappling hook is definitely sorely needed to offset the annoying inability to leap off buildings.

Overall, I've noticed it's kind of like a poor man's Arkham game, a very poor man, with its combat trying to emulate Arkham and paling in comparison to it, as well as the grappling hook being so obviously Batman's batgrapple.

And I still like the game despite that, even with London as a setting.

I didn't like it. It and Unity were the two worst main games imo. Both games were confined to one big, congested city that wasn't fun to navigate (though the grappling hook helped) and had bland protagonists.

Really happy they decided to go way back in time and spread out the map with Origins and Odyssey. More modern settings just don't work that well in AC imo.

Unity was hot garbage, and that's pretty much why I am liking Syndicate by comparison, because Unity lowered my standards so much.

I'm basically playing through them to get to AC Origins, which I'm pretty psyched about and hope is good, what with it actually being set in Ancient Egypt, a setting we've been talking about wanting since AC 2, if not the first game.

Unity did a few things right, like making the combat more difficult so that you had to rely on tools and stealth more.

Syndicate was an improvement on Unity in pretty much every way and added a lot of nice features, but... it still just felt like an improvement of Unity. Didn't live up to the rest of the series.

Why? They aren't needed in the slightest.

There are some important present day story connections at the end of Syndicate. I know most people don't care about that though.

Combat in Unity was probably the worst part, but I never like combat in general and just enjoy the parkour and climbing, same with prince of persia (whose combat was also detestable, especially in the second one)

Then again people play different series for different reasons. Oh but another thing that makes Unity the worst AC of all (besides all the other stuff) is the fact that it's just so disappointing. It has one of the best settings you could make a game out of: The French Revolution, Paris and its gothic architecture, the rise of Napoleon... and it completely squanders it all. It somehow feels both short and tedious at the same time, a very odd combination.

People always seem to assume it's story, but I just like seeing the progression of a how a game series has improved (or devolved in AC's case from black flag to unity)

I loved my time with Syndicate and also had a massive distaste for Unity. The Frye twins were a breath of fresh air and their camaraderie was very amusing.

It helped that the combat was not a pile of turds.

Yeah anything is better than the turd pile that was Unity, but I'm someone who was fine with the counter = instakill method of the old AC games since again, I like everything else about them but feel like combat is a chore.

And the more I play it the more I think I might legitimately enjoy this, unless something happens. The grappling hook is definitely nice and the small annoyances here and there haven't made me hate the gameplay yet.
