I sometimes wonder if my references don't answer or hate being called by random people and asked about me since most of the time the references are ex managers or former coworkers.

Yea but some people can tell the difference between someone who is genuine and someone who is putting on an act. Even if you coach the friend on whats happening you need to be sure theyre capable of putting on the act.

Sure, for "job" applications.

Background checks and references can sometimes be more serious for salaried positions that will pay mortgages and the mid grade BMW payment, though.
