but the number one complaint is that their online service is broken, and needs attention before they start selling pricey peripherals, ok?

so what exactly is wrong with the online service so far? i'm not a subscriber, so i haven't tried it myself, and was curious what was wrong with it, ok?

Nothing really bad. Back when they had it for the Wii U, it would sometimes disconnect when playing online games like Splatoon. It wasnt the best when it first started for the Switch. But they were working on it. Which is why the paying for the internet came out like a year late or so. It works pretty well now. But people also want voice chat. Nintendo did add voice chat, but has an app people can use. And people dont like that...

@1:08 He only wants the controllers for his collection. He doesn't like playing Nintendo games.

I'm not into all these gimmicks Nintendo is coming up with. I prefer the classic-style controllers connected to a classic-style console. I can't see myself bringing a $500 console around with me in public.

Actually this video is pretty dogshit.

You can't buy them unless you subscribe to Nintendo's online service and then you have to pay $60 for them at that point.

That is way too much ask for a pair of wireless NES controllers.

The pair of them cost less than a set of joycons. Also, less than one good controller for other systems. For what I can remember.

But you already have two JoyCons that came with the damn console. These games literally don't NEED any other inputs to play.

Some people like the feel of them. Its like how people get a pro-controller to use rather than use the joycons. Or because they want a full controller instead of the tiny joycon...

I am so over the motion and touch control phase for gaming. When I play my PS4, it's so simple - one controller and you're good to go. With the Wii U and Switch, you have Wii Remotes, Nunchuks, Pro Controllers, adapters, Joycons, etc. Bringing my Wii U places was a nightmare because of the controllers. Plus my VC library is kinda gutted since the GC adapter is only used for Sm4sh and GC controllers were how I played multiplayer VC games on the original Wii before I did a system transfer. The Switch is less of a mess but I dislike Joycons and I just miss the simpler Nintendo days.

As for the video......I think I'm just gonna stick to my Pro Controller lol

Whats so bad about it, though? I mean, most of the connection issues are gone. I havent even heard anything about it in like over a year. They wanted to make sure they fixed it before charging for it.

Yeah. I haven't owned a Nintendo console since GC literally because of the controllers and gimmicks. I bought a Switch because apparently you can use regular controllers again and it's been a long time since I played a new Mario game (over twenty years).

I never minded Nintendos gimmicks. But mostly because the games were fun. And the gimmicks could be useful. Like for WW HD, I could sail the sea while looking at the map without pausing on the Wii U. Or use the Wii U Pad to do stuff on Splatoon. And the WiiMotes were fun with WarioWare.

Because they're utterly useless without the subscription. The only things they can be used for are the NES games that come with the online sub. Not selling them to anyone else means they miss out on the people who don't have a sub but want them for collection purposes, but those people are pretty significantly outnumbered by the number of people who don't realize that they're useless without the subscription and would whine and demand refunds after buying them and being unable to use them.

I agree that restricting the sale of a physical product based on a digital subscription is kind of weird, but it makes perfect sense if you think it through.

Given that they're missing two face buttons and the analog stick, I don't see how they could be. They could end up as a control option for some indie game or other 2D platformer that comes out later, if they prove popular enough to justify implementing that, but until that possibility comes to fruition, there's really no reason for non-subscribers to want them (except collectors, as mentioned before).

I mean, I think technically it's the same number of total buttons if you count Start and Select and ignore the +/- buttons on the Joycons, but Start and Select aren't exactly positioned well to use as face buttons, and ignoring the +/- buttons isn't altogether reasonable (they tend to be used for pausing and such).
