I'm a fan of stealth games but seeing the gameplay videos and reviews of MGS...the game just looks so bland to me. I don't know how everyone hypes this game so much as a 10/10.

Is the desert literally the only setting in this game? Are you just playing on one map throughout or something?

This looks so boring if so. I'm comparing this to games like Splinter Cell and Hitman that vary greatly throughout the levels in the game.

It starts off fun but then you quickly realize how fucking lazy the side content is, and how the "story" missions most of the time have no story to them at all. There is another map you go to but it's just as boring as the first one.

Such a disappointing game.

I'm not one to always go by reviews but seriously wtf. And reviewers can give lesser scores to Hitman and Splinter Cell? I thought these games should be the apex of stealth.
I don't care if MGS was the first stealth game. The gameplay always looked s*** to me.

Because reviewers probably spend an hour max playing the game before typing up a review. The game's flaws don't start to show until several hours in.

I recall Konami hosting a "review bootcamp" where instead of just sending out review copies, reviewers came to a Konami place and played alongside a Konami rep and played lots of the game but didn't see ending stuff.

This basically sums it up. Although they are a few truly amazing story bits for brief moments that make you wonder if some good story telling accidentally wandered into the game.

Who's giving it a 10/10? I've never played it either and I've never had the impression it's a 10/10 game. Everyone says it's decent gameplay and awful story. You need to find better sources for your information if anything ITT came as a shock to you

how good the gameplay is keeps getting exaggerated honestly. it plays decently enough but I feel like people keep pretending the gameplay is better than it actually is to compensate for the boring world and story. like it's some sort of balancing act where oh yeah the game is totally bland and uninteresting but bro the gameplay tho

Yeah, the positive reception it got is completely baffling to me. Felt like a game that was cobbled together and rushed out the door in an incomplete state.
