don't have time to do work on my car anymore so I brought it in to a mechanic.
apparently the stalling/rough idle/power problem is a misfire or two and they want to replace the spark plug wires, distributor cap, and rotor for like $250. Sounds like I could do it myself. if that's actually the cause, that is. need to grill them about the head gasket.

However, they warned me: The water pump and/or timing belt are literally about to explode. $800 fix. Also I already know the rear suspension is totally fucked, I need new bushings. tires are going bald. leaky power steering rack.

damn, is it time to say goodbye to the camry? even if I manage to fix the misfire it could break at any time now and then I'd definitely need to junk it. how could I even sell this thing? could I get $500? less? I mean, it drives, I can at least say that.

Say it's just the spark plugs and shift asap at minimal discount.

Write it off and take the money. You'll get more than it's worth.

I asked about the head gasket and they were like "yeah that could be possible but we would a long time to test it". I'm not sure why they can't just do a block test with the blue liquid and the squeezy thing. anyway I got it back for free because they didn't do anything. nice shop but not very helpful. I'll try to diagnose myself.

anyway, at "500 OBO" nobody is biting. I could get 70 bucks if I junk it. or park it in my parents back yard, take the insurance off, and attempt to fix it when the weather gets a little nicer. parts are only gonna be like $250 but the belt looks like a pain in the ass. options...
