Its clear from Day 1 Zelda never had a chance in hell to beat Link. Because her only purpose in every LOZ game is to be a damsel in distress for Link to save. Link vs Cloud was closer and Link vs Mario would have been even closer (Rivalry Rumble went something like 57-43 if I recall correctly) Instead we got one of the most boring same fanbase finals in the history of contest finals.

Play Spirit Tracks and BotW then revise your opinion of Zelda.

actually this was more exciting since Zelda actually led for 10 minutes, something the others couldn't do

Cloud already got destroyed, and there's no way that Mario or Samus beat Link either. There was really no one else that had even a small chance of beating Link besides Zelda.

LoZ characters do worse against Link than non-LoZ characters because Link buries them all under SFF

non-LoZ characters already do trash against Link so there's no difference

like Zelda isn't far off from Cloud's performance but at least she got those first few minutes! plus the potential idea of rSFF at least exists for Zelda, there is no such reason for Cloud to do anything than what we already know

It just proved that Zelda has become one of the best female characters in gaming - sure, most of her controllable roles are in spinoffs (Hyrule Warriors = yes please) and crossovers (Smash Bros. since Melee), but Ocarina of Time, Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, Spirit Tracks, Skyward Sword, and Breath of the Wild have worked together to give her a wide range of characteristics and make her relatable and something far more than the "damsel in distress" she was in the first two or three games (LttP Zelda is just barely arguable both ways, I'd say).

It was not Board 8. For starters, she only beat Snake because of the outside vote. And pushing her so far ended in a predictable and boring way.

Man, Link\Mario would've at least been two different Nintendo games to make the final. (and too bad MGS fell so much the Link\Snake we wanted turned out to be a pipe dream)
