I remember that first article. She looked SO happy in the before pictures and then basically moribund in the recent ones.

The concept of "the wall" is something guys like to hold up against women who overvalue themselves when they're still young and attractive but man has it got to suck for them when they hit it. Imagine getting all the attention in the world and then suddenly it's gone. If you haven't secured a partner by that point you're pretty much fucked. Suddenly you've lost your value and on top of that you're alone.

Maybe 20+ years ago. The exact opposite is true now. And it's not making them happy, obviously.

Yeah, no kidding. As a guy your value holds up pretty well or likely even increases as you get older and acquire more wealth and assets. Obviously someone 18-25 still doesn't want to bang a guy that's 40+ but even then, success/money talks.

Some older women can still be pretty hot and the fact that they're not as vapid and can actually carry a conversation is quite sexy, but it must still be the rudest of awakenings for them. I would never want to be a woman that was still struggling with long-term relationships approaching 30. That's no man's land (pun intended) if I've ever seen one, haha.

My brother found some heinous wench online he's currently dating that has this exact mindset. Of course he thinks the same thing. If I'm not married and starting a family by 30 I'm a failure or not a complete person.

I told him years ago that he was full of shit.
And that's what all of this is. Some (a lot) of people are just idiots who are full of shit. Any relationship born out of desperation will never be a good one.

I read the first story and it rings a lot of bells about women in general, I think.

Particularly the part where she was starting to be successful in her career and he was struggling, so she resented him for not being able to take care of her and no longer appreciated his romantic gestures. Women loathe men that they have to support because they don't really want to be the breadwinners.

It's not the first time you'd hear about successful women struggling to get married as they get older. They have a much harder time finding a man because they don't want to date men they think are beneath them and the men that are above them have better options.

This woman gave up a good husband because he wasn't perfect. And perfect doesn't exist.

I can't tell if this is just more heavily publicized for women, or if it's just a causal anomaly for men. Men have similar rates of being single 30+, but succeed at suicide almost 4x more. So do they just not commit suicide over this, or is it reported less?

I'm not saying this happened to me, but once upon a time there was a girl in her late 20s who was having this same crisis and wanted to settle down and have a kid ASAP. She had just left her partner of several years. The guy in the new relationship was very into her and committed, but she couldn't seem to decide if she was happy with him or just happy to use him to achieve her goal. One minute everything would be perfect, the next she would ask him out loud in the middle of line at a movie theater, "Are you sure that you want to have children with me? Are you really sure?" and he would assure her, but she was so desperate at this point to fast forward to the end she just made a mess of everything. Despite this everything was still proceeding as planned, but in her confused state she got back in touch with her ex and made several trips to see him. Of course it quickly fell apart with the both of them and she ended up alone. Years passed and she was still alone, maybe even still is today.

I wouldn't be surprised if this was a common story. Second-guessing such an important decision seems like a necessity, but the decision is so far removed from the way healthy relationships naturally develop it's like there's no way it can work.

because the 20s are the last time where you feel the giddiness of being in love and going for walks and just enjoying each other's company. When you hit 30 you have to have your shit together and you're a little older and less resilient to life and you become more jaded usually, or at least you don't as easily fall head over heels in love anymore. more responsibilities, a more realistic world view makes having a simple love connection not as carefree.
