Some other visual novelly type games that are always recommended are the ace attorney series, 999, Danganronpa, and to the moon too. I'm down with visual novels in general, and I wasn't sure how I would take to DDLC's spin on it - but it was a very gutwrenching and emotional game that lampooned VN tropes and traits while also being very true to them. I feel like it's very much a homage made from a place of love. If you'd be interested in fanfiction at all, I found one called ~~Doki Doki Murder Club~~. Monika gives all of the girls omnipresence and the ability to rewind time and stuff, and they all take turns murdering the protagonist. Some of the deaths are 10/10, just some of the most unpleasant and grisly endings possible - and the creepiness of Yuri's chapter is amplified tenfold by running it through a text to speech generator.
