I hate the postal service so much. Last year I ordered some Christmas presents online and they ended up vanishing when they reached my apartment. The mailman doesn't deliver it to the door even if I'm home, he just leaves them lying next the front door of the building where anyone can steal them. I got so pissed off last year. I called and went down to post office so many times trying to find answers on where my packages were and what they were going to do about it and got blown off. The mailman acted like a shiftless asshole who just kept saying he dropped off the packages like he was supposed to and had no idea what happened to them. I don't understand why they're allowed to say that a package is "delivered" when they have no idea whether or not the recipient actually received it or not, but I was beyond livid that there was nothing I could have done about it. Even if I was home he would have still left it outside, so I don't know why I pay money to have stuff shipped to me and have absolutely no guarantee that I'll actually get it. I ended up talking to the postmaster who agreed to give me a reimbursement (which was completely useless to me since there was no time to order replacement presents) and THEY NEVER ENDED UP SENDING IT TO ME. I eventually just washed my hands of it all and swore to never rely on having packages sent by them. If I had a choice I'd use a different carrier, and if I didn't I'd just have them hold it at the office. (which still ticks me off, why should I have to travel to pick up my packages even when I know I'm going to be home? But whatever)

So this year I ordered more presents, and made sure it was traveling by UPS. At least they try to bring it to my door, and if they can't they take it back to their store which is right down the block. So they were supposed to arrive today, but yesterday I get an update that said they handed it to USPS for the final delivery. What the fuck?! That's never happened to me before! Why do they do that?! And again, the UPS store is literally right next door. All my UPS packages arrive there before they get sent for delivery. Why the fuck did they bring it all the way over here and then hand it off the the USPS office that's like a mile away? I knew the postal service was going to fuck up the delivery again, but since I had today off I just figured I'd basically camp by the front of the building when they delivered it and grab it as soon as possible.

...and then Bush had to go and fucking die canceling all mail service today. Well, that's just great. I don't want to sound inconsiderate, but I'm really losing my patience with all the shit that's conspiring to cause my Christmas presents to get lost again.

But it's FINE, right? Because the postal service introduced this thing earlier this year where you can sign up for an account online and tell them specifically how you want your packages to be delivered. I always tell them to just leave them at the office. I'll pick it up myself. It's annoying, but I'll do it.

...and it won't let me for this package. It just randomly says I can't do it for this one. IT WON'T TELL ME WHY, JUST "FUCK YOU".

So I'm trying to maintain my composure and just pray to god that somehow my package delivery will not be fucked over tomorrow. That's going to take a miracle because if it's not delivered in the morning I'm not going to be able to get home until around fucking midnight but WHATEVER. Please for the love of god wish me luck because I swear if I my Christmas presents are lost again I'm going to set my mailman on fire.

I had a fun experience with the mail yesterday as well, though not USPS. UPS tracking said my package was out for delivery so I was already expecting it, and I was actually outside hanging up Christmas lights when the truck pulled up. Guy gets out of the truck with a single package and walks down a side street. Couple of minutes later he comes back, so I ask him if he happens to have anything for my address. A quick 'No' and he hops in his truck and leaves. I don't know if UPS might have multiple trucks out, so I guess my package not being on this specific truck isn't too strange, but I'm already expecting the worst at this point

So I go inside and bring up the tracking number and, surprise surprise, my package was just delivered a few minutes ago. The UPS guy took my package and just my package, looked at the address on it, delivered it to a completely different house, and then when I asked him if he had anything for me and mentioned my address he just said no and left even though he was literally just looking at my address on the package.

The good news for me is I was right there when it happened, so after checking the tracking number I just walked down the street, found the porch he sat it on and went up and grabbed it. Was pretty paranoid the rest of the day that someone saw me do it and was going to call the cops on me for stealing my own shit.

This happens to me all the time when I buy things off Amazon.

Yeah, I took like 8 packages to the post office today and didn't realize they closed today. I was like, God damn it no one told me about this. But I'm sorry about your situation man,

I've asked to work from home in the past specifically to be there to receive important packages and they still don't even bother ringing the doorbell. It's pretty annoying.
