Since Cloud is going to steamroll the character battle

I mean, it's always been the most overrated FF. But it's unplayable in 2018 imo

It aged just fine, all the Square games that used the pre-rendered backgrounds aged pretty dang well.

I tried to play the game when it came out on PS3 and it was really boring. I stopped pretty early on.

Same thing with Xenogears. The gameplay for a lot of PS1 Square games were so boring.

Literally just selecting the same attack over and over and over and over in a menu.

FF7 is definitely more overrated than 6

FF6 is more universally liked since FF7 has so many detractors, and imo FF6 is also a worse game.

I loved Chrono Trigger so it's not like I don't like traditional RPGs

Just something about the gameplay in trigger made it so much more fun than FF7 and Xenogears

This....because you got to use your imagination as if you were reading a comic book or an interactive novel or something. It was more artistic.

As the FF games got more realistic graphics and voice acting, they lost all their magic. Everything got all cringe-worthy. So many JRPG fans thinking "THIS is what the developer have decided to do with all these technological advancements? Why?'

It aged just fine. I think its stupid how Square plans to improve the remake by implementing the combat systems of the newer games.

This is exactly what modern day JRPGS lack. They try to be all special with their battle system, but they just wind up being needlessly tedious. As a result, battles have too much shit going on in them...numbers flying around everywhere, characters doing multiple attacks at the same time. It's just unnecessarily cluttered.

You know, I had this same thought the other day. Not to say ALL new games are "bad", because they're not, but I had this thought.

It seems like back then, when developers had to go the extra mile to make up for the lack of graphics...things...were better.

I agree. There was a magic there. You nailed it. It's imagination.

I didn't like Bravely Default very much for spoiler reason, but that game has simple rpg gameplay that isn't completely mindless

Yup. We got to think in our minds how the characters talked and what all the battle actions and scenes were representing. We listened to a soundtrack and read text. We looked at beautiful backgrounds and cool-looking character models. It was a great experience.

Now, all the stuff that we used our imaginations to fill in the gaps have been replaced by some serious cringe-worthy bullshit. It's like that's what the developers had in mind back in the 1990s, but they didn't realize that their actual audience had something much better in their minds when they were filling in those gaps. There's been a massive disconnect.

If you honestly think Cloud is gonna steamroll the finals then lol. Link is gonna win yet again. How long have you been on this site? The last time Cloud won was over 10 years ago. Link wins every time there isn't some meme vote or 4chan or tumblr or whatever brigading a character.

FF7 is more popular, and whatever issues you may have with him, at least Cloud is an actual character.

Some of the cutscenes were transitioned to from the actual gameplay, so that's why some of the cutscenes still have the blocky characters in them.

The battle system is definitely more simple and boring in those old FF's. The fun in FF7 and FF8 is just doing grinding and prep outside of battle so you can magnificently steamroll the game. Or you can do the complete opposite and try to stay extremely low level/resources to extend the challenge.
