At work a few months ago, I was trying to get a file from a tall and wide filing cabinet and the whole thing started collapsing onto me. Boxes on top of it slid off and hit me on the head. It took all my strength to hold the filing cabinet up and eventually someone came and helped hold it for enough seconds for me to get out of the way and let the whole thing collapse.

If it collapsed onto me, I would have been seriously injured or possibly died. As it was, I ended up having tremendous pain in my ribs, head, hands, and spine for several weeks. The cabinet was completely filled with thick files and even 2 people couldn't lift it. I would have been on the ground with a filing cabinet on me and I imagine it would have taken a long time for 911 to arrive and help.

Was walking from school one afternoon and a truck drove past, did a three point turn, one guy jumped out with a gun pointed at me and cocked it. He yelled what you looking at, where you from but in the two seconds he took to yell that Id already run into an alley and was far away from that.

I ran for about two minutes to a more populated section of the city where I knew they werent going to make a scene. It must have been a case of mistaken identity because about 20 minutes later I saw the same truck at a red light and they just drove right past me.

I was working on a scaffold outside about 25 floors up in New York City, installing conduit for wiring on the side of the building. No big deal. We get to one point and the support where the scaffold is bolted into the side of the building is directly in the way of where the conduit has to run. There's dozens and dozens of attachment points for the scaffold, so disconnecting one and moving it isn't a big deal. I was with one other guy, and when he broke the bolt loose at the connection, the scaffold shifted maybe 1/8th of an inch tops, but I nearly defecated myself. For a split second I thought we were going down.

We had a call for a house on fire at around 11am. I was going across the living room floor with the hose then the floor collapsed and I fell through the floor into the basement. Plus God knows what feel on top if me after I fell. I legit thought I had died.

I completely destroyed my right knee and fucked my back up since I was wearing a tank obviously. I was hospitalized and out of work for almost a year.

85mph in a truck flipped about a dozen times, crashed through a steel gate, hit a gas line, and broke a lot of bones. Then I almost died during surgery.

AT THE TIME none of them were scary in the moment because I was drunk and knocked out, and out like a light anyway for surgery. Just looking back, I realize I may have had some luck on my side.

Slipped on a patch of ice, slid under my neighbors boat trailer while he was pulling away--he had absolutely no way to see me. My 13 year old Akita pulled me out from underneath, which was great because I was panicking and couldn't get traction to go anywhere. Did get a nasty cut on my leg because it was all jagged underneath though.

Funniest in retrospect scary moment: I'm horrendously allergic to bees, and a bee flew at me and got lodged in my nostril in a way it couldn't sting me. That could have very easily been the end of me since no one else was around.

While overseas, me and my buddy had to go talk tp two Afghanis that had stopped putside our FOB. We check 'em for weapons and take an AK and a 9mm while we chat with 'em. We're the bottom of a small hill doing this, and suddenly 4 pick-ups loaded with dudes crest the hill. They stop and sit idling for a minute or two. They eventually gun it down the hill, stop in front of us and all these dudes jump out and start pointing their AK's at us.

My buddy and I raise our weapons. We're both yelling, they're yelling. At one point I look over and go "What the fuck are we gonna do?"

Buddy goes, "Switch to auto and if you hear a shot, spray. I love you man."

Thought I was dead. We have a bunch of LAVs behind us cpvering our position, but fat chance of them doing anything to stop us from getting killed. The interpreter eventually calmed things down and then we shared smokes around. Them dudes thought they were fucked too.

Was on a cross-country flight that dropped about a thousand feet. Twice. Guy next to me hit the ceiling, bags fell out of the overhead, flight attendants and carts everywhere.

Open air turbulence. To top it off it was 4 days after the shoe bomber got caught in Paris so people were on edge anyway.

I love those flights. Did everyone go "OHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!" in unison? Like it was going to help? When that happens I take a death grip on the arm rest because.... THAT helps too and wonder.... "Am I really going to burn up in a cornfield in Nebraska? It's always the last thing you suspect"

Then you get off the plane with shit in your pants and the cute little airline lady is standing there with urine in her panties goin "Hope to see you again!"

Yeah I dug my hands into the armrest deep! There was actual screaming which didn't make anyone feel better. Really harrowing. The pilot said something about flying over the top of a thunderstorm. The flight was from Boston to LAX and this happened somewhere over Arizona/New Mexico. They gave us free drinks the rest of the flight.

I remember looking down at the cockpit at one point. Kind of like how you look down a well.

I was swarmed by fire ants when I was 4 but I don't remember it. I had to be rushed to the ER, had little white scars on my body for a long ass time but they went away luckily.

Guess this might not count because I don't remember it, but yeah. If I did.. that would be pretty scary. It's probably locked away somewhere in my brain, the only way to access it would be to drink Ayahuasca at this point.

Well, on a 10' x 10' square pattern of scaffold anchors, the one above, below, and on each side are now holding 25% more weight.

Like, don't do that shit.

Head on collision my family was in when I was 9. Happened on the 4th of July, the guys in the other vehicle had been up partying all night long. Right when we crested a hill going full speed(55 iirc) a huge van also going full speed swerves into our lane. Full head on impact. It demolished our vehicle. I remember being flung toward so hard that I was in the air for what felt like seconds, my seatbelt is the only thing stopped me from going through the windshield, or into the dashboard between my parents.

The scariest part was after, when I looked up to see my mom unconscious in the front seat, I thought she was dead. Looked next to me to see my brother, with a massive knit on his forehead with blood pouring out. I literally thought it was his brains coming out from the size of the wound and the way he was slumped over. I was completely in shock, and stunned, sitting in the middle of all this wreckage. My dad got out of the car and walked away, my one cousin was with us that day, she was shrieking bloody murder.

Some bystanders got us all out of the vehicle, and the ambulances finally arrived. I was sitting on the guard rail next to my brother as the emt was working on him, he ended up being airlifted to a distant hospital because his injuries were so critical. My dad and cousin went in one ambulance. I saw my mom get loaded onto the last one and it pulled off... A police officer walked by and told me to go back to my parents. I told him they were taken by the ambulances, and he quickly called them back. They weren't too happy about having to come back for me. I rode to the hospital with my semi-conscious mom, she doesn't remember any of it, but I kept telling her I loved her and not to die, and she just talked nonsense back to me.

As it turns out, I was the one who was injured the most. The seatbelt that caught me from being thrown had hit with such an impact that it severed my intestines and impacted my spine. The emt guys told the hospital I was unharmed, and I went untreated. Which led to the most excruciatingly painful week of my life, as I ended up developing gangrene in my intestines and was hours from death by the time I was actually treated like a week later.

Everyone mostly made full recoveries. I still deal with back issues and nerve damage, and occasional intense intestinal pain from the scar tissue causing them to twist up and pinch on themselves. Mom has some nerve damage too, but otherwise no lasting injuries. But dang, the visual of them, especially my brother's head. I try not to think about it.

I had 2 scary moments, one time hiking on a mountain trail (which was more tourist with all the wire fencing and stuff) that at one point during the trail I slipped on wet rocks and was sliding down toward a cliff, but luckily a fence saved my life.

I think it was obvious that fence was there for a reason probably from past accidents.

Another time was when I was driving at night after it rained, and I was caught up in heavy traffic that was going too fast beyond the speed limit, I was going down a road I was not familiar with because the traffic wouldn't let me get on the correct road and I was getting scared after that. I had little maneuvering to work with, and I barely managed to get into a opening on my right side and then made a sharp turn into a church parking lot.

In general I find driving at night with wet roads to be the most dangerous due to lack of visibility.

One Sunday night a long time ago when I barely learned how to drive, I was taking my grandma home from church. I was going sorta fast and didn't stop soon enough at a stop sign because it was pouring hard, so the car came to an abrupt stop at a stop sign after sliding a bit.

I stopped literally an inch away from a goddamn cyclist who just so happened to be cycling across the street at like 9PM at night right when I was at the stop sign. It was pouring like crazy outside and I did not see the cyclist at all. You wouldn't have even expected a cyclist at that particular intersection at that time in that weather.

Could've hit him bad.

This didn't happen to me, but a guy I used to work with told me that when he was in the army he and some buddies got drunk and stole an army truck for some joyriding. They were training in the desert so there were no people or lights around.

They're roaring over the sand dunes and acting crazy when all of a sudden the truck just cuts out. They can't get it started. They get out to look under the hood and notice they were just about 15 feet from the edge of a cliff. There was about a thousand foot drop.

If they had kept going they would have all been killed.

EF5 tornado went close by my house back in 2011, back during the April super outbreak. It missed but it was only hundreds of feet away; debris was all over the yard and my family were dumb enough to stand outside during it to try and get some good pictures.

My sister and I were the only ones with any common sense and hid in the bathroom even after our parents said it'd be okay. (My sis and I agreed that their judgment was shit if they were trying to get pics of the thing.)

I still have nightmares about this shit and still get anxiety from just thunderstorms.
