Since you are so knowledgeable on the "real word" you probably don't need to have it explained to you that consumers vote with their wallet. As in "I'm not paying money for a service with ads".
Imagine thinking having the right to spend your money as you see fit is entitlement.

as i already said above,

it's fine if that is the reason they don't want to sign up for the service. that is their right, even though their justification is borne out of a false sense of entitlement.

Maybe, just maybe, it's corporate entitlement to expect people to pay to watch ads and call it entitlement when they don't want your product.

After watching Netflix and watching my show straight up its difficult to go to Hulu that has ads.

Plus Hulu just offers what you can get by purchasing a cheap antenna and get for free.

Not only that, but Hulu has an awful layout. Like so bad I wonder how its even acceptable in this day and age.

I'm currently trying to figure out how to block Hulu ads on other devices where you can't install adblock, which I've read is totally possible. Apparently there's even a way to reduce the timer. There's pretty much always a way around ads if you're dedicated enough.

Youre paying for the on-demand content.

Netflix is better for like, movies, esoteric stuff and Netflix originals but Hulu is better if you like TV.

I dont mind paying for Hulu because I dont have the ability nor desire to drop several hundred dollars on all the different box sets Im interested in.

But I can afford 10 dollars a month, so I can watch a bunch of stuff like Seinfeld and Gravity Falls and Daria which, of course, arent on Netflix. >_>

I honestly think Hulu should stop offering their service with ads and instead only offer an ad-free service. Fair or not, Netflix, the top dog of TV streaming, set the president that your subscription entitles you to an ad-free experience. Amazon Prime reinforced the idea. When Hulu started a pay-service people assumed it would also be ad-free, and it wasn't. Because it wasn't following the industry norm, it causes people to think of it as a lesser product, despite it's wealth of content. At the same time, people are going to shy away from the higher-priced offerings because people are cheap. If Hulu would have just come out with only the ad-free service, people would have no issue with it, despite its higher price point. It's probably too late now though as removing the ad-supported service would piss people off.

I don't know if it's different on a PC, but I have a Hulu app on a TV and sometimes after the commercial the show will start a few seconds late, and if you try to correct it the commercial sometimes starts again.

That is annoying af. But otherwise I'll gladly pay less for a few commercials.

I like Netflix but the UI on PS4 sucks. They took away scrolling left and instead it takes you to some menu...real annoying when a show I wanna watch is at the end of a category..

Hulu isn't much better in terms of UI...kinda reminds me of the PS3 home menu..

HBO is better than both tbh.

Hulu has different license contracts and will play new episodes the day after airing on cable for a lot of shows. I think that's why they have ads but I don't see why old seasons can't be ad free and new ones are with ads

because that is what the service they offer entails? do you really not understand that?

The problem is that what your offer entails and what the populace thinks your offer should entail don't align here. Hulu's ad-supported subscription price might very well be appropriately priced, but Netflix and Amazon Prime have basically set the standard that subscription-based streaming services should be ad-free. So people are naturally going to compare the Hulu's viewing experience to those services and Hulu is going to come out looking like a lesser product, even if it has a better catalog of stuff.

There aren't any ads if you pay 12 dollars a month, which is a very competitive price for a streaming service.

It's 8 dollars a month if you don't care about a few ads.

I'm usually doing other things when it's on so an occasional 30 - 90 seconds to go somewhere away from the tv and get something done isn't a big deal. There's even a handy countdown. But I understand that some people are sitting on ass for hours on end just watching and doing nothing else, so I would recommend those people fork over the extra four bucks.

that's not a "populace" problem. it's only a problem with a small and ridiculously entitled vocal minority. hulu has solid subscription numbers and revenue, and has just as much staying power as any other streaming service. their business model has been proven successful, no matter how loudly a small segment of potential subscribers whine.

You do know that Hulu lost nearly a billion dollars last year, right?

Are people just obtuse?

Damn right Netflix set the precedent for a streaming service that was ad-free. They absutely killed it with their library. Tons of movies, TV series and some original content. Amazing starting price at $8.99.

That peak was about 6 years ago. Since then they have raised their rates to $10.99 and have lost most of the agreements they had. Their library has shrinked dramatically. They are about to lose Disney content as well. It wasn't sustainable for them and/or they decided to focus on original content instead.

Amazon Prime has always been the weaker of the 3, but even now comes in at $120 a year (or $10 a month) and of course includes the shipping benefit.

Hulu's ad-free network is what...$11.99? That also includes the ability to add on premium channels if you want them. You are paying literally a $1 difference for more television content if you like TV. If you want original content and tiny bit better movie library, then Netflix is better.

Hulu's content with ads at $5.99 is a cheaper option with more actual non-original content. At $1 a month, come on.

Yes. People aren't logic computers. How something "feels" will often the actual tangible benefits of that thing.

Before Netflix, TV streaming basically consisted of the shitty flash players that each network had that would stream the show with commercials for free. Then Hulu came along and consolidated that into a more single hub, still with commercials for free. Then Netflix hit, it was a paid service but you got an ad-free viewing experience. Amazon Prime also started streaming and it too was ad-free.

Hulu eventually started a subscription service but it was not ad-free. It had ads, which up until this point had been associated with the free services (previously including Hulu). The library increased, but from a pure viewer experience perspective, it was still more comparable to the free services rather than the subscription ones. And that often overrides the fairness of the pricing or the size of the library when it comes to the customer judging a service. It's not fair, but that's life.
