I'm starting to think about collecting a library of classic Disney movies for the children I will inevitably sire, but there seem to be a lot of options to choose from. So my question is: are any of the older Disney movies censored in their latest iterations? I know there are some pretty racist parts of Dumbo, Pete Pan, etc., but I think it's important to have the original film as is in order to give context to when these were made. If they have been cut recently, what is the most recent iteration that has the original theatrical version? And which films have been edited like this (if any)?

Fantasia has had a racist Centaur cut out since long before its first home video release. It's due out on Blu Ray in the coming weeks and will almost certainly be censored once again. You won't find a release with that character included. There is no cut, instead in pans/zooms on something else in those frames.

As far as I know, Dumbo and Peter Pan have never been censored.

Of course there is Song of the South which is impossible to find legally with the exception of a PAL VHS release from the early 80s.

The late 80s/early 90s films have been edited to have perceived dirty things removed (ie the priest's boner in Little Mermaid and the dust reading "SEX" in Lion King).

Its true! Theyre launching their own Netflix competitor streaming service next year where all their shit will be exclusive, and THE DISNEY VAULT is presumably a big part of that along with Marvel and Star Wars exclusivity.

Its why the Netflix MCU shows are winding down.

Yeah but apparently the 1999 release accidentally brought it back.

(I hadnt actually heard about this one so I googled it.)

according to what I'm reading it wasnt found until 1999.

The two topless woman frames had reputedly been present in the film ever since its original theatrical release in 1977 (a fact apparently confirmed by Disney, whose spokesperson said that the tampering was done more than 20 years ago), although Disney claimed that they were not included in the 1992 home video release because that version was made from a different print.

Which I guess doesnt preclude it not being found until 1999.

On January 8, 1999, three days after the film's second release on home video, The Walt Disney Company announced a recall of about 3.4 million copies of the videotapes because there was an objectionable image in one of the film's backgrounds.[30][31][32][33]

Yes thats the same one Im talking about. My assumption is that the 1992 release was made from a different print (per Disneys words) for reasons unrelated to the topless woman (which Disney obviously didnt know about or they wouldve prevented its appearance in the 1999 release), and that other print happened to not have her in it.
