"Ill pre-order you, when you coming out to the world"

Iunno. Id be interested in the response. I want to get to the point where I can lightly troll people irl without feeling awkward myself. Once they nice Id just tell them I was playing tho.

Don't you get a $5 credit or something. I thought I saw a sign that says "If I didn't ask you to pre-order you get $5."

I think I've only been asked if I wanted to pre-order something once in the past 5 or 6 times I've gone to gamestop.

And even then, the guy was just like "Did you want to pre order anything?" and I was like "nah, not today." and he was like "Cool, here ya go."

It wasn't like it used to be where they'd try to shove some Ubisoft shit down my throat for 3 minutes.

That's my experience. Its like people want the world to specific catter to their anti social personality. The world is not a hard place just cause you don't get to decide every social reaction you have. Gotta learn to deal with it. It's actually pretty damn easy.

Tbf Gamestop used to really push them even if you said no. That's what was annoying.

They used to really push the premium rewards card but these days I've noticed they lay off.

Yeah, the sales crew never had honest conversations with you. I haven't stepped foot in one in years because of their pre-order pushing. I'd usually have to tell them no 5 or 6 times before they would stop badgering me.

Fuck that place.

It's because Ubisoft, Activision and EA have stopped incentivizing pre orders with the rise of digital sales IIRC

Honestly, I think the way I dress makes people feel like the extra effort isn't worth it. I also give flat answers in a more assertive tone, like my mind is definitely made up. If you talk like "probably not today" or "Im kind of tight on money" then you sound like you're not completely shut off to being sold shit. You don't have to be mean, but you also don't have to be nice.

You guys are either young, have really special Gamestops or are absolutely full of shit.

2005-2012 Gamestop was notorious for trying to sell you on pre ordering the next big game. There were tons of articles and reports about how they were basically forced to do this because their performance was specifically tied to their ability to sell pre orders.

It's reasonable that during that time I just wasn't paying attention and it wasn't a big enough deal that I would think about after leaving the store. Most people don't hold onto shit like that for 6 years lol.

^Confirm.

I haven't been in one in like 7 years, but they used to tell me that I "wouldn't" be able to get big ticket games unless I preordered. It's one thing to casually ask if I want to preorder, but some stores would nag you during the transaction process.

That's not even the worst part, which was (is?) their process of selling opened games as new.

This. 2011 is when I decided I was done. Had a friend who worked there, he constantly bitched about his job being on the line over pre-order sales.

Also, they had a shady practice of letting employees borrow new games and still selling them as new when the employee returned it.

Last time I went I actually felt like I got the cold shoulder. I was gonna make small talk but as soon as he did the bare minimum he turned to the other employee and started talking, icing me out. Even then I was just thought "oh, alright then" lol. That actually was more of a deal to me than him doing his job cause I felt minorly disrespected. But I mean, people will be people. Sometimes that's gonna happen. If I felt like it was intentional to spite me I would of said something. It didn't feel personal tho

If people didn't experience this, chances are they might have been going to a Gamestop corporate store instead of a franchise store.

IIRC it was the franchise stores that were held to the high pre order standard.

Now that I'm thinking about it, Gamestop employees tend to talk to me a lot more about the game I'm buying instead of pre orders and shit. I actually probably spend more time in Gamestop now than ever. I just went yesterday to trade in Octopath Traveler for Let's Go Pikachu, and both dudes talked to me for about 7 minutes about both games. One of the dudes was really hyped for Let's Go Pikachu and even pulled out his Pokeball controller and was telling me about how he's training his Wartortle with it.

Like...thinking back now, it feels like it could have been a subtle plug *for* the controller, but if it was I didn't think that at all until just now and it just seemed like he really liked Let's Go Pikachu.

But anyways, I'm pretty sure corporate is trying to change things around now that digital sales are on the rise. The employees are just a lot cooler and try to make it a more welcoming experience theses days (although it might have been like that for a few years, I just started shopping at Gamestop again the past year or so)
