Said to be only a shade less talented than Dumbledore. They dueled to a standstill for hours when Dumbledore was in his prime. Dumbledore wrecked voldy in the ministry while protecting harry and subduing b et latrix.

Plus we see Grindlewald duel like 30 aurors and only lose bc a bowtruckle sneak attacked him.

Yet voldy is clearly inferior.

Voldy was obviously harder to kill bc horcruxes, but I think grindlewald was potentially a better wizard in general.

Honestly, I always figured that Voldemort had more raw power but that he was probably not as polished as Dumbledore and Grindelwald. I don't know why, but it's just how I've thought of it.

But grindy and dumble were always considered near equals. It was always said that voldy feared dumble. I think there was a decent gap in their power, even in voldy's prime.

Only because Dumbledore is known the world over as the one who defeated Grindelwald when he had the fucking Elder Wand. Voldemort basically knew that there was likely no way to beat Dumbledore while he had the wand. He feared him because of the Elder Wand.

From how I recall it, Dumbledore defeated Grindelwald who had the Elder Wand at the time. Definitely a formidable feat, and left Dumbledore as the wielder of the wand. Voldemort knew this, and thus feared Dumbledore. Technically Grindelwald also "feared" Dumbledore, since he fucking moved to a different country to get his power train started.

Not quite. Dumbledore was known for beating grindelwald, but the business of the elder wand wasn't common knowledge. Remember, Voldemort spends a HUGE part of Deathly Hallows interrogating olivander, gregorovich, and grindelwald himself to track down the elder wand's location.

Voldemort didn't know Dumbledore had it, and it's unclear if he even believed it existed before the events of Deathly Hallows.
