Which means it was valid for a time. Just because it expired doesn't mean your birthday has changed or cancelled.

My ID was expired for a few months or so a few years back before I renewed it, oddly I was able to get beer and stuff at bars with it, but not get hentai at Otakon haha.

Maybe to protect against fraudulent IDs since old IDs might lack modern security features? And where do you draw the line? Ive got an old drivers license of my moms from the 80s.

I agree with this. Expired IDs are more likely to be fraudulent so most places wont accept them.

Anyone can find an expired ID in the trash and then start using it. Likely your name, general appearance, height, and driving capability doesn't change either if your driver's license expires. That's not the point.
