32 y/o Jesse James Lutgen from Illinois has Died from his Type 1 Diabetes and his mom is warning others on the deadly risks of rationing your medicine, or insulin in his case!!

Janet Lutgen is heartbroken over her son's death because he SKIPPED taking his treatment because he lost his job and insurance and couldnt afford his insulin supplies anymore so he was rationing his medicine to survive!!

She said "I had heard through the grapevine that he wasn't able to afford his supplies because he had lost his job and didn't have any insurance"

She was horrified when she visited his home and found no humalog or test strips as he always took them before he took his meals.

He's been advocating for affordable insulin as her cover photo says "Isulin isn't optional..stand up for affordable insulin"

Jesse was a football fanatic who used to live in Iowa as he was an avid Iowa Hawkeye, Chicago Cubs and Green Bay packers fan who also loved disc golf and spending time with cousins.

Janelle misses her son everyday as football season will be hard without seeing him at her home when he visits..

Would you support higher taxes if it means singler payer healthcare for everybody?

Jesse - Deceased

No I do not support paying higher taxes. If we gave free Healthcare wouldn't the cost be like double or triple our entire yearly budget which means half of our paychecks would go to taxes?

Idk about y'all but unless housing and utilities were also free I wouldn't be able to pay my bills if my paycheck was paying for free Healthcare.

Also what's the real story here. Did he not let his family know? Did he just resign himself to his house to die in secret? Surely someone in his life could have helped him.

NPH insulin is like $10-$20 per month depending on the store and price fluctuations.

It's not like Lantus and Levemir are the only two long acting insulins.

Also nearly every city has a charity pharmacy that give priority to type 1 diabetics.

Healthcare costs would go down over time as preventative measures and affordable medical supplies would lower the rate at which people suffer potential medical complications and disasters in their lives. This would increase the longevity of the populace and thus you'd be collecting more tax revenue over a person's life time since they'd be living longer. Add to that that people wouldn't be going bankrupt over their medical issues and there would be much less debt in the economy and thus more money could be used to pay things down. It ends up working the same as an insurance pool anyway and that market is lousy with lack of competition and price gouging. Prices would actually decrease since the hospitals wouldn't be overcharging the insurance companies and also the consumers to get extra revenue, since it'd be coming from one source.

And let me tell you that being diabetic without insulin makes you feel REALLY shitty. It's hard to describe, but it gets to a point where you can't eat despite being hungry because your blood is so acidified that you're already gonna vomit anyway. You're also extra extra dehydrated and... well. Point is, type 1 diabetics, like myself, cannot survive without insulin. Period. When I was diagnosed 20 years ago, a vial of insulin used to cost 1/3 of what it does now OTC or Rx. Test strips cost 4x-5x as much and so on. I could understand people not being sympathetic to a type 2 diabetic since a lifestyle change can potentially reverse their ailment. For type 1s... stem cell therapy might save us, but that's about it.

US guys spend more on tax on healthcare than Europeans, but Europeans get healthcare provided. All your money goes to big pharma and insurance companies ripping you off. It's not a money thing, it's theft.

Yeah, Type I is an autoimmune disease. No one "gave" it to themselves with bad habits. Well, actually, technically you can get a form of Type I if you have chronic pancreatitis from alcohol, but that's not common.

People who say it is hard to get insulin aren't trying hard enough to get help. I have had Type 2 for three years now and not once did I have to pay for my insulin. All I had to do is fill out a hardship form from the insulin manufacture and they will email you a prescription card. If I didn't have that, I'd be paying over $500 every 3 months.

This is what happens when you cultivate a culture that puts money over lives and it's what happens when half the country's population are idiots who gladly think this is no problem and will gladly bend over and grab their ankles every time for rich people.
